COVID is the bitter medicine we needed
The present sucks. This tiny virus is killing our enjoyment, killing our future, killing our bank account and, for some, killing us. I bet you wish it never happened.
It’s a global panic attack. That….does….not….seem….to….end.
And yet…
What does not kill you, makes you stronger is a cliche. Cliches are stupid. But they are also often correct. This one might be true right now.
I know that sounds a bit mad. Every day there are more and more deaths, blunders by the authorities, people losing their jobs, scary theories about the virus and bleak predictions how we will be in the Great Depression again. But then again, the news cycle feeds on panic and anger. You are not seeing the whole picture.
The whole picture is complex. Nobody has the f**k any idea what will happen with this coronavirus.
There are scientists advancing shy tentative models that we ignore because they seem too uncertain. On the other hand, there are pundits predicting the future like their middle name is Nostradamus. These we believe.
Humans have an in-built predisposition to believe self-confident people. That’s why there are so many self-confidence courses and so many successful people who basically bullsh*t all the time.
