Easter is more than chocolate eggs and bunnies. It’s the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection and ascendance to Heaven.
Changing yourself, your behavior, personality, life, is just like a resurrection. Jesus had to die to be divine again. He could not just ascend to Heaven while carrying the burden of his mortal life. And the burden of Man’s original Sin.
You also cannot change while carrying around the burden of your past. The burden of who you have been until no. You have to let go of ‘you’, of the image of who you think you are.
The belief in a fixed personality is the Original Sin of psychology. You cannot grow and evolve without letting it die. Letting go of your image of you is however hard.
Jesus had to die painfully and slowly to let go of the Original Sin. Likewise you have to let your old self die for your new self to resurrect. Like the crucifixion, this will be slow and painful. Like Jesus, you will be tempted to give up by the alluring comfort of not changing. In this case the weak mortal nature that wants you to give in is your unconscious monkey. It wants you to stay the same. But it seeks only avoid present pain, does not see the future misery of not changing.
However you do not have to be Jesus to change yourself. You don’t need divine willpower.
